"Miss, Miss... wake up!"
Su Li was sleeping soundly when she was shaken awake by her maid, Xi'er.
Opening her eyes, she looked at the ancient and elegant room and the magpie that was tied up by her. Su Li's clear eyes were filled with despair.
Remembering where she was, she closed her eyes again.
Death would be better than this.
The young maid's eyes turned red, and seeing that Su Li remained silent, she shook her even harder and started crying, "Miss, please don't die, don't scare your servant."
She was really a crybaby.
It was understandable though. They had fallen from the cliff along with the carriage, and surviving was already a miracle. Now, they were the only ones left at the bottom of the cliff.
But what the young maid didn't know was that her mistress, the legitimate daughter of the Duke of Dingbei Manor, Wei Mingwu, had already died, and it had been half a month since Su Li had taken her place.
The more the maid cried, the louder she became. Su Li... no, she was Wei Mingwu now.
She got up from the bed and said, "Stop crying, I'm not dead yet, just took a short nap. Go, bring that magpie over to me."
Xi'er wiped her tears and quickly brought the fierce-looking magpie over. Although she didn't understand why her mistress always fiercely poked the magpie's head every time she woke up, as long as her mistress was alive, she was satisfied.
Wei Mingwu stared at the magpie, wishing it would disappear in a puff of smoke.
She had transmigrated, and she could say it was all thanks to a magpie, although not this one.
Half a month ago, she had walked out of the operating room exhausted, barely able to stand, and just wanted to sleep. Then her mother called, asking her to go on a blind date early in the morning. She said a magpie had come into her room, chirping at the head of her bed for a long time, and even left a poop before leaving. It was a sign of good luck, and she had a chance to get out of being single.
Under her mother's urging and the threat of cutting ties, she dragged her tired body to meet a weirdo. On her way back, she got into a car accident and hit her head on the steering wheel.
When she woke up, she was hanging from a big tree, unable to go up or down, and the maid was kneeling on the ground crying. Thinking of that scene, Wei Mingwu wanted to stew and drink the magpie in front of her.
She hadn't eaten meat for half a month, and the thought of it made her stomach rumble with hunger.
Xi'er looked a little scared, and remembering something, she said, "I caught a fish just now."
Wei Mingwu's eyes lit up. "Stew it for fish soup!"
Having only eaten fruit for half a month, her mouth tasted like bird, and the thought of fish made her unable to control herself.
Xi'er nodded eagerly and went out. Wei Mingwu couldn't sleep anymore, so she followed her.
The small room was elegant, surrounded by beautiful scenery, lush trees, and exotic flowers and plants. The air was sweet, but in the distance, there were either cliffs or dangerous places, with thickets and a river separating them from the outside world.
Although they were grateful for the shelter, Wei Mingwu couldn't help but think that building the house here was a terrible idea.
It was like a prison.
However, the kitchenware was complete, and the furnishings in the room were not bad. It had been uninhabited for many years, and the courtyard was overgrown with grass. The dust in the room was so thick that it was unbearable, but Xi'er was diligent and had cleaned it up, making it look fresh now.
The only downside was that the roof leaked.
A few days ago, it rained heavily outside, and it rained lightly inside the house. They huddled in the corner all night.
They didn't know how long they would have to stay here, so they needed to find a way to fix the house.
Wei Mingwu went to the kitchen and looked at the fish in the wooden basin. She was disheveled in the wind.
"Is this the fish you mentioned?" Her voice trembled.
The fish was the size of a thumb. Could it still make fish soup?
Xi'er knew the fish was a bit small, but it had taken her an hour to catch it, and it was not easy. Afraid that her mistress would be disappointed, she said, "Miss, you eat this fish first. I will get better at catching fish..."
This maid was always afraid that she would seek death.
Feeling thirsty, Wei Mingwu scooped up a bowl of water and drank it in one gulp, then...
Spit it out!
It was so bloody!
"Are you injured?" Wei Mingwu asked.
Xi'er shook her head, "I've already healed. Is the water not good to drink?"
She was about to take a sip, but Wei Mingwu stopped her. "Don't drink it. Take a hoe, we're going to the river. If we're lucky, we might find a big wild animal to satisfy our hunger."
Xi'er chuckled, "Miss, you always have wild ideas."
But she obediently took the hoe and followed Wei Mingwu to the river to search.
"Miss, Miss, come quickly, there's someone there!"
In no time, she exclaimed.
Wei Mingwu hurried over and saw a man floating in the middle of the pool, the sunlight shining on the luxurious brocade robe he was wearing. Without hesitation, she waded into the water and dragged the man to the shore.
Xi'er, holding the hoe, timidly said, "Miss, is he dead?"
"He's still breathing."
He definitely wouldn't survive. With such serious injuries, blood was gushing from his shoulder, and his lips were turning purple. He was worse off than they were.
He was so handsome, it was a pity that he was going to die.
Xi'er mourned for him and left with the hoe.
Wei Mingwu stopped her, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to dig a hole to bury him later."
"..."
Ming Wei furrowed her brow. This maid was so efficient that it was unsettling. The man hadn't even breathed his last breath, and she was already digging a grave.
Whether they could leave or not, it all depended on him. They couldn't let him die.
"You watch him, I'll be right back," Ming Wei said briskly.
As Ming Wei hurried away, Xi'er called after her, "Miss, don't go too far, I'm scared."
Ming Wei disappeared into the woods, leaving Xi'er on the verge of tears. Fortunately, before long, Ming Wei returned with a few medicinal herbs in hand.
As she walked, she stuffed the herbs into her mouth, chewed them, spat them into her palm, and instructed, "Tear open his clothes at the wound."
Xi'er hesitated for a moment, then quickly obeyed. Ming Wei applied the herbs to the man's shoulder and said, "Press it tight. Release it when the bleeding stops."
"I understand," Xi'er replied, pressing the herbs firmly.
Meanwhile, Ming Wei plucked a few more leaves, crushed them with a stone, and squeezed the juice into the man's mouth before repeating the process with two other herbs.
She had no medicine or silver needles, so she had to resort to this method of using poison to counteract poison. She knew she couldn't completely remove the poison at once, but with careful treatment, she could eventually clear it out.
"Can he still be saved?" Xi'er asked, looking at Ming Wei.
"With you here, there's no doubt he'll survive," Ming Wei assured her.
Xi'er thought to herself, "Miss is really good at boasting."
With a forced smile, she said, "Miss, you're amazing. When he's better, he can help us hunt, fish, and build houses."
Ming Wei couldn't help but smile wryly. Just a moment ago, she was about to bury the man, and now, while he was still unconscious, she was already assigning him so many tasks.
But in a way, it aligned with her own thoughts. There were some heavy tasks that she and the maid couldn't handle alone.
For the sake of this labor force, she had to find a way to snatch him back from the hands of the King of Hell. If she missed this opportunity, who knew when the next unlucky person would appear?
But Xi'er seemed to be thinking more than she was. "If he's a good person, Miss can marry him and have more little masters. We can live under the cliff, how nice would that be?"
Ming Wei was speechless.
She couldn't help but pat Xi'er on the head and say, "Can you stop thinking so much? Judging from his attire, he's definitely not an ordinary person. If he fell off the cliff, someone will come looking for him."
Although she said that, Ming Wei was anxious. It had been half a month since he fell, and there was no sign of anyone from the Hou Mansion coming to look for him.
Xi'er's eyes lit up. "If someone comes to find him, can we go back to the Hou Mansion?"
